Improvement Details

Details1. Revised syllabus to reflect improvements in using the new software for the second consecutive semester.

2. Took note of the current outcomes that may not be addressed/successfully completed within one semester and how that outcome can be addressed or completed or may need to be eliminated or addressed in perhaps another related course.

3. Improved course activities (timed writings, optional practices, speed/accuracy builders) to enhance individual student learning and enable more students to achieve targeted learning outcomes.

4. Discovered differences in the assessment scoring by the various instructors in the course (concerted team effort to more consistent grading).

5. Various instructors found better ways to use the keyboarding software to increase individual student progress (tied in with #3 above)

Assessment Methods

Methods1. Quiz on basic computer concepts

2. Observation on individual keyboarding technique (posture, hand/finger position, proper reaches to individual letter keys, eyes on copy [book as opposed to computer screen], demonstrated use of shifting, spacing, using the number and symbol keys as well as the numeric keypad

3. Completion of Lessons 1-11, 25-30

4. One- and three-minuted timed keyboarding testing with 90% accuracy

DetailsMoving forward, MABS 30 instructors need to come together ASAP to rewrite the current course outline of record so that we can together successfully meet what should be the most appropriate goals/student learning outcomes for this course. We can then focus on better preparing our students to successfully pass employer typing tests.
